In 2007: Gorsett has continued to progress at each level he played. Playing in 77 games with Quad Cities, he led all batters with 21 doubles and posted a solid .286 batting average. In 266 at bats, he finished with a .425 slugging percentage (4th on the team) and scored 40 runs (3rd on the team). His performance in Quad Cities earned him a promotion to Palm Beach on July 13th, where he continued to elevate his play. In 47 (High A) games, he scored 15 runs and smacked 12 doubles, 2 triples, 5 homeruns and 33 RBI’s in 171 at bats. His .310 batting average was second on the Cardinals team for players who went to the plate at least 100 times. Between both teams, he hit .295 with 129 hits, 33 doubles, 4 triples, 9 homeruns, 51 RBI’s and 7 stolen bases. Gorsett’s successful 2007 season provided him with an opportunity to take his skills to the Nicaraguan Winter-League. Playing for Tigres Del Chinandega, Gorsett tied for the League Lead in home runs with six (6). Career Highlights: Gorsett was selected in the seventh (7th) round of the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. After culminating an impressive season at Nebraska that garnered numerous personal accolades and awards, Gorsett was limited to only 76 AB’s while recovering from an injury sustained at the end of the collegiate season. In his limited action, Gorsett hit two home runs and had two doubles with 5 RBI’s. Gorsett finished a stellar campaign with the University of Nebraska, where as he was named the District VII Player of the Year from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) as well as receiving first team accolades from the (ABCA) for the All-Midwest Region Team. The Denver, Colo., native finished the 2006 collegiate season by hitting .348 with 15 homers and 48 RBI, ranking among the Big 12 leaders in homers (second), slugging percentage (second), total bases (133, eighth) and batting average (15th). A first-team All-Big 12 selection, Gorsett was a semifinalist for both the Dick Howser Award and the Brooks Wallace Award and was named an All-American from the College Baseball Foundation. Prior to joining the Cornhuskers, Gorsett was one of the nation’s top junior college sluggers playing f at Garden City (Kan.) CC. He received first-team NJCAA All-America honors in 2005, batting .402 with 24 homers, 71 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. Gorsett also led the nation in homers and was tied for 11th in RBIs, as he also slugged .800. His gaudy season earned him regional and conference player-of-the-year accoladesin leading Garden City to a 42-16 record and a Jayhawk Conference title in 2005. |
