| Henry Leaving Ole Miss for Tigers | |
In 2007: The former Ole Miss star proved to be a spark at the top of Oneonta’s lineup, leading the team with 49 runs, 85 hits and a .340 average. He was also tied for second on the Tigers squad with 14 stolen bases. The second baseman also had a great eye at the plate, striking out only 22 times in 250 at bats. In the New York Penn league, Henry finished second in hits, third in average and was named a NYPL Mid-Season All-Star. He finished his impressive first year with 11 doubles, 2 triples, 1 homerun, 31 RBIs, and a .833 OPS. Career Highlights: Henry was drafted in the 9th round of the 2007 MLB draft by the Detroit Tigers. A three-year starter at Ole Miss, he is the only player in Ole Miss History to earn ALL-SEC tournament honors for three straight years at three different positions (designated hitter, second baseman, and outfielder). He concluded his collegiate career leading the team in average (.381), total bases (129), walks (30), triples (8), stolen bases (22), and on base percentage (.450) during the regular season. His 99 hits were also tied for the team lead with his brother Jordan. He was named the South East Conference Player of the Week once during his final campaign. After being drafted by the Tigers, Baseball America said the following about him “He has a simple, line-drive approach and he uses his hands well throughout his swing, showing good barrel awareness. He works counts well and has a good two-strike approach.” His 2006 season at Ole Miss was stellar as well, batting .332 with 89 hits (third on the team), 12 doubles, 3 triples, one home run, 30 RBI’s and 18 SB’s. As the starting second baseman, he helped lead the Rebels to their second straight trip to Omaha. |
