In 2007: Maj signed his professional contract with the Cardinals only weeks before the close of the professional signing period. He had just finished pitching in the Texas Collegiate Baseball League (TCBL), where he was also a member of the All-Star Team. He appeared in two (2) games for the short-season Batavia Muckdogs. His only appearances came on August 25th against Auburn and August 28th against State College. Maj pitched a total of 1.1 scoreless innings with 2 strikeouts and a 1.50 WHIP for the season. Career Highlights: Maj was selected in the 45th round of the 2007 MLB draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. He concluded his collegiate career at Abilene Christian University earning first team all-America in the American Baseball Coaches Association and Daktronics polls. His other accolades included being a first team all-Lone Star Conference south division and the divisions Pitcher of the Year. As the closer, he led the nation and tied the division II saves record with 20 saves. Maj’s strikeout to walk ratio was phenomenal, striking out 72 batters and walking only 4 in 54.0 innings. In 39 appearances, he posted a 5-3 record with a 1.00 ERA while holding opponents to a .172 batting average. Prior to attending Abilene Christian, he was at Vernon College in 2006 and Treasure Valley Community College (California) in 2005. In 2006 as Vernon’s closer, he posted a 3-3 record with 4 saves and a 2.68 ERA. At Treasure Valley, he finished with a 5-4 record and 2.35 ERA in 65 innings. |
