In 2007: Davis kicked off his career with the rookie level Missoula Osprey. As a reliever, he appeared in 21 games going 3-2 with 1 save and a 3.97 ERA. The 6’6 pitcher tossed 47.2 innings and had a stellar strikeout to walk ratio, striking out 62 batters and walking only 19. He finished second on the team in strikeouts and third in ERA. His 11.71 strikeouts per 9 innings was one of the Pioneer League’s best. Career Highlights: Davis was selected in the 22nd round of the 2007 MLB draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. In 2007 he went 3-0 in 19 appearances with one save and a 3.12 ERA over 49 innings. He held opposing batters to a .193 average and struck out 41 batters for the SEC champions. In 2006, Davis went 5-5 in 24 games during his junior season. Even after having back surgery, he compiled a 3.91 ERA which was tops among starting commodore pitchers. He also logged one save and totaled 71.1 innings striking out 71 batters and walking only 28. As a sophomore in 2005, Davis appeared in only 4 games but showed his dominance. In his only start of the year, he tossed an 8 inning 2-hit shutout against Ohio. He finished the year 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA for Vanderbilt and went on to play for the Peninsula Oilers of the Alaska League. He was named the 5th best prospect of the Alaska League by Baseball America following the 2005 season. |
