In 2007: Wlodarczyk proved to be the staff workhouse of Vero Beach leading the team in innings (138.0), games started (26), wins (9), complete games (3) and shutouts (1). He was also third on Devil Rays in strikeouts with 102. Wlodarczyk led the (FSL) in Complete-Games with three (3), his win total tied him for 5th in the league and innings-pitched placed him 8th. He wrapped up the season by allowing 1 run over 7 innings while earning his 9th win at St. Lucie. Career Highlights: In 2006, Wlodarczyk finished the season leading the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays in Wins (9), Games Started (27), and Innings Pitched (153). He also held opponents to a .246 BA. His stellar season led him to being named to the 2006 Midwest-League All-Star Game, and had a streak of 49 innings without surrendering an earned run. His terrific campaign was culminated by pitching 8 innings of no hit ball in mid-August. Wlodarczyk was drafted in the 7th round of the 2005 MLB Amateur Baseball Draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He spent his first professional season pitching for both the Princeton Devils Rays of the Appalachian League as well as for Hudson Valley of the New York-Penn League. Wlodarczyk pitched for Princeton until early August, as he was promoted Hudson Valley. Prior to his departure, he ranked third in the Appalachian League in earned run average at 2.54 while striking out 50 hitters against only seven walks in 49.2 innings of work. His 50 strikeouts ranked him ninth in the league, and his strikeout-to-walk ratio of better than 7 to 1 ranked him second in the league out of all starting pitchers. Wlodarczyk was also tied for the League lead in Games Started with 10 and was fifth in the league in innings pitched with 50. Wlodarczyk’s dominance earned him the “Pitcher of the Year” Award for Princeton. After his promotion to Hudson Valley, Wlodarczyk was even more dominant. In five starts, he compiled a team low 1.90 ERA in 23.2 innings of work. He struck out more than one batter per inning with 25, and surrendered less than one hit per inning with 22. Between Princeton and Hudson Valley, Wlodarczyk registered an extremely impressive 2.33 ERA in 73.2 innings with 75 strikeouts and 19 walks. His combined 2.33 ERA between the two stops was an Organizational Best for the season. He started a combined 15 games and gave up less than a hit per inning in his first professional season while striking out just over one batter per inning. In his 3-year minor league career, Wlodarczyk has a career 3.38 ERA and has allowed less than a hit per inning pitched while pitching 365.1 innings and completing 4 games with 2 shutouts. Prior to the MLB Draft in June of 2005, Wlodarczyk had just finished a stellar season at Boston College. The 6’5” 235 lb. native of Medford, NJ posted a 10-2 record with a 2.96 ERA while striking out 90 batters in 85 innings of work, while showing impeccable command with nearly a better than 4 to 1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He led the Big East Conference in wins with 10 and was 3rd in the league in strikeouts with 90. Wlodarczyk was also named First Team All Big-East, and was rated by Baseball America as the #2 prospect from the state of Massachusetts heading into the 2005 Draft. Wlodarczyk was also drafted in the 2004 MLB Draft in the 15th round by the Montreal Expos, and was named by Baseball America as the “One Who Got Away” from the Expos 2004 draft class. Last summer he pitched for the Hyannis Mets of the Cape Cod Baseball League, where he earned all-star status after going 4-0 with a 2.08 ERA in 43.1 innings of work. |
