Team/Property Consulting

Sports Pro Services (SPS) provides team management and franchise development consulting services, brokering and acquisition services, and sports marketing opportunities within the professional sports industry.

Dan Burgers, the principle of SPS has over nine years of experience in the successful management and operation of professional sports franchises as well as in running his own agency.

SPS has provided consulting services to WD Sports, Inc., the parent company of the New Mexico Scorpions and the Corpus Christi Rayz of the Central Hockey League, as well as for the Laredo Bucks of the (CHL), and the Laredo Law (AF2) football team.

Management Expertise:

Prior to SPS, Mr. Burgers served as the General Manager, Chief Operating Officer and Alternate Governor of the New Mexico Scorpions hockey club. Before joining the Scorpions, Mr. Burgers served as the Assistant General Manager and Alternate Governor of the Fort Worth Brahmas hockey club from 1998 to 2001. At the conclusion of his full time position with the Brahmas, he was hired as a management consultant for seven months. In 2001 Burgers was named “WPHL Executive of the Year”.

Mr. Burgers was ultimately responsible for the entire performance of these organizations, including the supervision of all business operations such as sponsorship sales, ticket sales, marketing, public relations, game night operations, and finance. Within these duties included the supervision of all financials and reporting; the coordination and supervision of all ticketing functions, packages and reporting; the implementation and approval of all sponsorship materials and presentations; and the purchase, trade, and placement of all media. He was also responsible for overseeing all operational issues such as player contracts, travel, accommodations, immigration, equipment and insurance.

Mr. Burgers initiated his sports business career with the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League. In his time spent with the Devils, Mr. Burgers was responsible for the financial and operational auditing of the lease agreement between the New Jersey Sports Exposition Authority and the Devils. While working in this capacity, Mr. Burgers received first hand knowledge of general lease agreements, worked closely with the executive management team, and was exposed to all of the vital revenue streams and processes of a professional sports team.

Franchise Rebuilding & Start Up Success:

Since Mr. Burgers’ departure from New Jersey, he has been extremely successful in dramatically improving both the financial outlook and general operations of the teams that he has managed.

In Forth Worth, Mr. Burgers managed a start up company by hiring and training fourteen full time employees, negotiating both an arena and office lease, as well as all other general aspects pertaining to a start up operation. At that time, the franchise had a nominal capital investment, and Mr. Burgers was integral in raising over seven figures in venture capital for the start up of the franchise. He also was accountable for successfully re-negotiating the teams lease agreement with the City of Fort Worth which included new revenue streams highlighted by the opportunity for the team to sell the naming rights to the facility.

In New Mexico, he was responsible for revamping the entire front office and business model of the Scorpions. He compiled a first class front office team made up of eleven new employees that witnessed substantial revenue growth in one season. Numerous reporting and control mechanisms were implemented in order to oversee the business. New accounting, ticketing and corporate sales systems and processes were implemented. In May of 2003, as Mr. Burgers transitioned into his consulting role with the team, the Scorpions had already surpassed the entire season ticketing revenue from the prior season; five (5) months prior to the 2003 home opener. Tremendous revenue growth was witnessed in each city.
