The 6’2” 225 lb. native of Show Low, AZ was 5-4 on the season, starting 11 games and appearing in 21. He had a 3.27 ERA in 77.0 innings pitched and struck out 67 batters on only 17 walks.

He was named to the All-Conference First Team and All-Region First Team and was an All-American nominee. Mathis was also selected in two prior MLB drafts, by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2003 draft and the Seattle Mariners in the 2004 draft. Dan Burgers, the Agent for Mathis, stated, “Doug is a big, strong kid that has a pitchers’ body. He was effective both as a starter as well as coming out of the pen. He has a good fastball that tops out in the low-to-mid 90’s, and Doug has three good pitches. Having pitched well in the Big 12 will certainly help prepare him for pro-ball.” SPS is an organization designed to provide full service management and representation to professional athletes in baseball, hockey and football.
