MATHIS CULMINATES IMPRESSIVE CAMPAIGN WITH RING

   
 

DALLAS, TEXAS – Sports Pro Services (SPS) client Doug Mathis (RHP) has just completed an impressive inaugural professional season as a member of the Northwest League's Champion Spokane Indians. The 13th round draft pick of the Texas Rangers led Spokane in a plethora of pitching categories as well as being ranked within the League Leaders of the Northwest League.

Mathis was the ace of the Indians staff, leading the team in Innings Pitched (84), Games Started (17), ERA (2.68), Strikeouts (78) and a Walks/Hits to Innings Pitched (WHIP) of 1.13. He surrendered less than a hit per inning with 78, and displayed pinpoint control by maintaining a better than 4.5-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Mathis was also tied for the Northwest League's lead in Games Started, 2 nd in the league in Innings Pitched, 5 th in the league in Strikeouts, and 7 th in the league in ERA and WHIP.

Prior to joining Spokane, Mathis had just completed a successful Junior campaign at the University of Missouri, one that saw the Tigers finish in 4th place in the Big 12. The 6'2”, 225 lb. native of Show Low, AZ was 5-4 on the season, starting 11 games and appearing in 21. He had a 3.27 ERA in 77.0 innings pitched and struck out 67 batters on only 17 walks.

Prior to Missouri, Mathis spent two seasons pitching for Central Arizona College. In 2004 he went 13-3 and had an ERA of 1.35 in 18 games while striking out 92 and walking 21 batters in 100 innings pitched. He was named to the All-Conference First Team and All-Region First Team and was an All-American nominee. Mathis was also selected in two prior MLB drafts, by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2003 draft and the Seattle Mariners in the 2004 draft.
